School Projects
As a practising artist and designer with a breadth of experience in teaching 2D and 3D visual studies, Pete offers a range of workshops which are designed to enhance the art and design curriculum.
In the majority of the projects illustrated below, the subject matters, the brief and constraints were set by the schools’ art and design staff in liaison with Pete. The projects were very much ‘hands on’ for the students and presented some considerable learning curves. Pete’s role was purely to facilitate, the students being in control of the projects from the preparatory design stage to project completion. This was in order to instil a sense of ownership, responsibility and professionalism when working to a set brief.
Chuckery Primary School, Walsall
Pete was commissioned by the school to produce 4 stained glass panels and a brick relief to celebrate the school’s 80th anniversary.
The stained glass was designed, built and installed by Pete over a 3 month period. Nearly all of the integral design elements were informed by workshops held with the school’s pupils, their ages ranging from reception to year 6. The panels are sited in double doors in the school hall.

These 2 panels are based on an aerial view of the school and depict the major elements of the school curriculum and the school’s ethos

These 2 panels depict the history of the Chuckery area over the last 105 years. The left hand shows the area in 1905 with limited housing, a foundry, 2 brick works and a clay pit. The right hand shows the densely populated present day with the school, high-rise flats and the foundry still present.

The brick relief shows an aerial view of the school’s surrounding streets and the school’s ‘smiley face cogs’ logo. The bricks and their firing were generously donated by Wienerberger Ltd of Aldridge.

This panel was designed, built and installed by Pete. However, many of the integral design features were informed by project work done with the school’s students.
Pete worked in the school for 2 weeks making the panel while giving regular taster sessions, where the students were able to gain ‘hands on’ experience of all the processes involved.
The panel will be displayed in a light box in the school’s reception

The Chuckery Mosaic

The Chuckery is a large, densely populated and multi cultural urban area of Walsall. The mosaic was commissioned by The Chuckery Action Group as a focal point for the central outdoor recreation area
Pete worked in conjunction with local artist John Horton to design, make and install the mosaic which depicts a stylised aerial view of The Chuckery neighbourhood. It measures approximately 6 feet square
